From baby steps to seniors, we have classes for everyone.
The main Saturday classes are based on the stage syllabus and include tap dancing, modern stage and majorettes. Grade ballet classes are run separately although we encourage all of our dancers to learn ballet.
Pupils work towards medals and grades for the BATD exam days and are entered into examinations once they reach the required standard.
Our youngest dancers start at age 2½ in the Tiny Tot class where they’re introduced to tap steps, ballet and modern stage. They also learn the basics of majorette marching and twirling using lightweight batons. At around age 4½ to 5, the pupils move up to the exam classes.
Tap lessons are great fun to take part in, as our dancers learn to develop rhythm and co-ordination while building up their technique.
Modern stage involves various types of movement including jazz and ballet steps and helps build up fitness and flexibility for all types of dance.
While freestyle/street and cheerleading are not part of our main syllabus, we include these styles in our dancing show routines.
In the majorette sessions, pupils start with basic baton twirling, military march and progress to dance twirl routines as they work through the levels.
Ballet is included in the Starlite class, and pupils from age 6 can join an additional ballet class where we teach grade work from Pre-Primary and medal tests from First Steps.
Ballet training gives our dancers the fundamental techniques that cross over into many other types of dance. While starting at an early age is ideal, older pupils get great benefits from starting ballet and learn to develop core strength, muscle tone and graceful posture.
Thursday classes for teenagers, advanced dancers and adults
Our dance classes for older pupils from teens to adults are on Thursday evenings where we continue with the syllabus work up to advanced levels. Ballet is also available on Thursdays for children from age 10 upwards and we offer free ballet lessons for dancers enrolled in the main Thursday stage classes.
Senior students can take exams up to BATD Associate level in stage and majorette.
We have separate adult modern and adult tap classes, both suitable for any level from beginners up to more advanced stages. The adult classes offer a fun-filled alternative for fitness and exercise.
